Noted journalist, poet Anwar Pirzado remembered

KARACHI: Speakers at a book launching ceremony held on Saturday evening opined that senior journalist, poet and anthropologist, Anwar Pirzado, remained a source of inspiration for youth in his life, and his work had continued the job even after his death.
People from intelligentsia, journalism and civil society gathered at Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP), Karachi to participate in launching ceremony of late Pirzado’s English book ‘Indus and its Delta’.
Anwar Pirzado Academy has published the book, a compilation of Pirzado’s write-ups, research and speeches about the River Indus. The back page of Pirzado’s book has introduced the Indus River in his own words. “Mere words cannot portray in full the beauty of the legendary River Indus. The thing of beauty, which is Indus, having innumerable faces is, therefore, only worth seeing”.

The book includes references of Pirzado’s 22-day-long Indus River journey he did in 1989 with his friend and historian Badar Abro from Attock to Keti Bandar. During his speech at the book launching ceremony, Badar Abro disclosed that during their expedition of the Indus River once their lives had come under threat due to a faulty ship.

Abro said that Pirzado’s great contribution was his commitment with Sindh and its people. He kept continuing his writings with the commitment without any fear, he said, adding that because of this Pirzado faced difficulties in his life, those include prisons also.

Poetess, Fahmida Riaz, said late Pirzado remained a source of inspiration for youth of Sindh during his life, and would be remembered with same spirit even after years. Professor Altaf Aseem said Pirzado struggled whole life without depending on anybody else.

Prominent journalist Muhammad Hanif said that Pirzado was a ‘google’ of Sindh, as he did know about every nook and corner of Sindh and about every aspect of its people. Former judge of the Supreme Court, Justice (retired) Deedar Hussain Shah, said that late Pirzado’s work would remain a source of inspiration for next generations of Sindh.

Dr Ayub Shaikh, Shahid Hussain, Qazi Asif, Zarar Pirzado and others also spoke on the occasion. Renowned lawyer and intellectual Khadim Hussain Abro, Adam Malik, Comrade Ramzan Memon and Comrade Lal Khan were also present.
