Nisar rejects Zardari’s proposal
ISLAMABAD – Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has rejected appointment of Deedar Hussain Shah as NAB Chairman.
Replying to President Asif Zardari letter with reference to consultation on reappointment of Deedar Hussain Shah as Chairman NAB, Nisar said, “I respect court’s decision and government should also honour the Supreme Court (SC) decision.
The Supreme Court in its March 10 decision had declared the appointment of Deedar Hussain Shah as chairman NAB illegal. But the government pursued the course of protest rather than respecting the court’s decision.
He also pointed out that PPP Sindh chapter announced strike in the province against the SC decision, and in consequence of this protest several innocent people from Sindh were killed and business activities came to halt.
He further stated in his letter that process of consultation could be initiated on appointment of chairman NAB after the announcement of detailed decision of SC. However, the government decided in haste to reappoint Syed Deedar Hussain Shah as chairman NAB.
Reappointment of Deedar Hussain Shah as chairman NAB was not appropriate and someone else be appointed chairman NAB after consensus and purposeful consultation, he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly had challenged appointment of Deedar Hussain Shah as chairman NAB in the Supreme Court.
