Newspapers supply to be stopped in Nawabshah

NAWABSHAH: The Nawabshah Newspaper Hawkers Union on Wednesday said that some elements were busy in harassing, threatening and humiliating the hawkers besides setting copies of newspapers on fire.

In a meeting, the union decided to stop supply and sale of newspapers for an indefinite period unless the hawkers were provided security against the miscreants and compensated for economic losses they had suffered so far. This will be effective from today (July 28, Thursday).

Speaking on the occasion, Nawabshah Newspapers Hawkers Union president Muhammad Ashraf said that they wanted protection against the elements who were targeting the hawkers. He said that everything was in the notice of the administration. Other leaders of hawkers, including Abdul Mallik and Shafi Muhammad, also addressed the participants of the meeting.

Meanwhile, in a letter to APNS President Hameed Haroon, the Karachi Central Newspaper Hawkers Union office bearers demanded that the hawkers of Nawabshah, Sukkur and other smaller cities should be provided security against the elements targeting them.

They said miscreants had threatened the hawkers to stop the sale and supply of newspapers from today (Thursday). They said a similar situation could also arise in Karachi if effective steps were not taken and hawkers not provided security. They demanded immediate action in this regard.

Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of the All Pakistan Newspaper Hawkers Federation Sindh Chapter was held on Wednesday. Vice president All Pakistan Newspaper Hawker Federation Sindh Chapter chaired the meeting. The meeting demanded of the government to provide economic and social security to hawkers.
