Newspaper office attacked in Karachi

The printing press office of “Daily Times” newspaper in Karachi, the capital city of Sindh province, was attacked on September 19, 2012 by some armed men during a strike called by a religious and political party, Jamaat-e-Islami, against the anti-Islamic film.

A staff member of Daily Times told PPF that dozens of armed men first opened aerial firing in front of the office and then entered the office premises. They opened fire towards drums of kerosene used in printing process. A bullet hit the roof of the building, while the oil drums remained safe. He said miscreants also shattered windowpanes.

According to press reports, no causality was reported, as the miscreants retreated soon. They also tried to suspend the office work, and asked the staff members to close the office.

The newspaper staff demanded of the government to probe the matter and arrest those responsible.

No case has been registered as the party leaders promised to meet office staff today and ensured them to expel the activists from the party if found involved .
