Newsman’s case: HRCP seeks criminal investigation
LAHORE: Human Rights Commission of Pakistan chairperson Asma Jehangir has said the serious allegations leveled by a journalist of kidnapping by unknown persons must be fully investigated.
According to a press release, she said: “The description of abductors and the hurling of abusive and threatening language make it abundantly clear that the perpetrators were government agents, who wanted to silence the journalist.
A judicial inquiry is not enough. A thorough criminal investigation must expose the brutal elements within the state and the persons in power on whose behest such barbaric acts are being sanctioned.
“This incident should not be forgotten as it seriously breeches freedom of expression and encourages fascist tendencies within the state structures”, she said.
