New application launched to facilitate motorway users

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Communication Murad Saeed has said the government is taking steps to depoliticise institutions to improve their governance.

Addressing the launching ceremony of Humsafar, a smartphone application, on Wednesday he said with the use of the application National Highways and Motorway Police would be able to respond quickly and serve the road users more effectively.The minister said the application would help the Motorway Police to provide instant relief to the users in distress.

He shared that the Motorway Police already had a positive image and it was the present government’s resolve to make it the best institution in the public sector. He said new road projects would be completed and farm-to-market linkages improved. This will generate economic activities which, in turn, will create more job opportunities.

He informed the audience that a pilot project for model road would be launched soon to improve the condition of the existing NHA roads. He said that he had witnessed marked improvement in the Ministry of Communications and its attached departments since assuming charge and he believed that there was great potential to make Pakistan a modern state.

The minister said Motorway Police had launched the first ever National Road Safety Policy to control accidents on the highways and motorways which would be implemented in letter and spirit.Murad said Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision is to facilitate the people of Pakistan.

On the occasion, Motorways Inspector General A D Khawaja said that technology had taken over the world and transformed the daily lifestyle. He added that National Highways and Motorway Police had decided to launch the mobile application to improve its service to road users by deploying modern technology.

Additional IG Operations Iram Abbasi gave a presentation about the newly-launched application which had become functional from Wednesday.

Referring to the ministry’s performance in the first 100 days of the government, Murad said there had been a record increase of Rs3.72 billion in the revenue of the NHA. He added that the inquiry against corrupt officers was complete.

He shared that the department had auctioned additional 200 cars. He said the ministry was trying to adopt the policy of Public-Private partnership to complete projects rather than being a burden on the exchequer.

Murad said millions of rupees were being found in the accounts of rickshaw drivers along with the money stashed abroad.
