NCHR calls for establishing trauma, counselling centres for Kasur victims
ISLAMABAD: The National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) in order to ensure speedy justice to the victims of Kasur’s child sex scandal will seek monthly progress report from the chief secretary of Punjab.
The NCHR also will hold frequent interactions with the joint investigation committee through the office of the inspector general of police, Punjab.
The NCHR recommended on Monday that a trauma and counselling centre be set up for the victims of Kasur scandal to help them start a new life.
NCHR Chairman retired Justice Ali Nawaz Chowhan said the commission would work with the district coordinating officer and district police officer for trauma counselling of victims and their families in collaboration with civil society organisations and representatives of local people.
Addressing a press conference here, he said: “The Kasur episode is clear manifestation of decadence in our moral values and the failure inter alia of religious leadership, political leadership, preventive measure, law-enforcement agencies and neighbouring watch.”
He said the commission took notice of the issue and a three-member fact-finding committee had been formed to ascertain facts behind the scandal and submit a report.
He said the commission had thoroughly probed the shameful incident and decided to approach the office of the prosecutor general of Punjab to appoint well-trained and experienced prosecutors for monitoring the progress of the case.
He said the NCHR would monitor the proceedings of the joint investigation committee and a progress report would be sought from the chief secretary of Punjab on a monthly basis.
Furthermore, frequent interaction with the joint investigation committee would be ensured through the office of the IGP Punjab.
