Nawa-i-Waqt blast case: SHC gives 30 days to trial court

KARACHI- A division bench of Sindh High Court directed the trial court to record statements of prosecution witnesses within 30 days on a bail application filed by an activist of Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) Muhammad Ozair Qureshi an accused allegedly booked in a bomb blast case at the office of a local daily Nawa-i-Waqt in Karachi.

Applicant’s counsel Mehmood Alam Rizvi submitted before the bench comprising Justice Attaur Rehman and Justice Ghulam Rabbani that trial court rejected his client’s bail plea on the basis of accuser’s statement under Section 164 Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) in which he confessed the crime.

He further submitted that police obtained his confessional statement by severely tortured him and in trial court he denied the charges. He contended that till date no identification parade was held and trial court did not record the statement of prosecution witnesses.
