Nawa-i-Waqt Blast Case Accused Awarded Life Term

KARACHI,Jan.9: Additional District and Session Judge, Abdul Malik on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to accused Aziz Qureshi in Nawa-i-Waqt office bomb blast case.

Four person including a woman who was reportedly carryong a bomb were killed in the blast at City office of Nawa-i-Waqt on M.A Jinnah road on November 6, 2001.

The victims included Circulation Manager Ziaul Haq, omputer operator Sajid Mehmood and Najam Zaidi of business section.
Several person including passersby were also wounded. The case was registered at Soldier Bazar police against unknown suspects.

The accused Aziz Qureshi was arrested on March 2, 2002 who confessed before Magistrate his involvement in the bomb blast.

According to police, Aziz Qureshi, worker of Muttaheda Quami Movement attending a meeting at Rimpa Plaza in which Kazim Raza, Javed Ilias TJ, Mujib Abbas, absconders were also present. They hatched conspiracy against Nawa-i-Waqt as the newspaper was allegedly against their party, according to police.

Police said the deceased woman, Ms Parveen was not aware that a bomb was kept in her purse.Around 29 witnesses recorded their statement.
