National University of Modern Languages sets up capital’s first media lab

ISLAMABAD: Students of the federal capital got their first media lab to give vent to their directorial, editorial, production and designing skills before hovering successfully over the wide stretch of media market, which is the most competitive and least compromising.

This state-of-the-art media laboratory has been established with the collaboration of HUDA Development Organisation and Entrepreneur Global Trust (EGT) for the students of mass communication at National University of Modern Languages (NUML).

Both the organisations have been working since long for the provision of media laboratories, studios, and infrastructure and impart education in the field of journalism in the country. The plaque of the lab was unveiled by HUDA Development Organisation CEO and Team Leader Tayo Fagberno. He was accompanied by NUML Rector Maj Gen (r) Masood Hasan, Director General (DG) Brig Azam Jamal, ET Chairperson Fatima Kazmi, Mass Communication Department Head Mufti Jameeludidn Ahmed, Registrar Brig (r) Saeed Akhtar Malik, Patras Rahmat, HUDA’s GM and other officials of the university.

Talking to media on the occasion, Tayo Fagberno said, “New possibilities emerge when we have right environment. When people refuse to accept or learn new technologies, they eliminate the capacity to function freely and swiftly. Therefore it is a challenge for the faculty that they should be very open to new technology and assist their students learns these technologies because our young generation is very quick in learning and adopting them.”

Tayo further said that NUML is a distinguished university because of its uniqueness as it teaches 26 modern languages. Therefore, the significance of a latest media lab increases manifold when an institution’s major emphasize is on communication and language skills.

Speaking at the occasion, Rector Hasan said, “The establishment of the media lab will equip our students with latest skills of media production, media editing and all the functions that are carried out in a media studio. It will give our students a filed experience within the department.”

Moreover, Mufti Jamiluddin Ahmed told this scribe that the media lab would complement students’ theoretical knowledge with practical exercises at the lab. It has the facility of documentary making, editing process, and recording system through NLE Macpro System, Windows base Editorial System, Audio and Video Consoles.

A student of mass communication, Sobia Javed, expressed her pleasure and said that “it is a great step indeed by the department as it would save our time in a way that we can practically exercise and learn all the media equipment and tools here in the department”. In the end of the inauguration ceremony, Rector Hasan presented the University Shield to the chief guest. Prior to this, DG Brig Azam Jamal received Tayo Fagberno, Fatima Kazmi and other officials of HUDA Organsation and EGT.
