Natasha Saigol — the fiery young stylist on the block

I remember telling everyone about her as soon as I left her salon, nestled neatly at her Lahore residence. I just couldn’t contain the happiness. To make one look so effortlessly chic and impressively stylish is a task not many can pull off, especially in a market saturated with so many stylists, one is spoilt for choice. She is young, talented, fiery, enthusiastic, approachable, funny and very relatable. She could be the girl-next-door with her distinct sense of style and fashion, who is always at the top of her games, whatever she does. The once Islamabad-based stylist now moves to Lahore and is in awe of the city completely. “I love Lahore. Who wouldn’t? Everything feels so alive here,” says the very effervescent and flamboyant hairdresser with that contagious smile, which makes one fall in love with her more. Natasha Saigol is a professional hair stylist whose career extends 11 years in the Pakistani fashion industry. Qualifying successfully from the Vidal Sassoon Academy, Wella Academy in London, Schwarzkopf Academy Hamburg and New York Fashion Academy, Natasha came back to Pakistan to work with ace stylist and choreographer Tariq Amin after which in 2008 she branched out to open her own salon called Natasha Saigol.

Having come to Lahore only but recently, Natasha has already began her salon services situated at her residence in GOR I. With a wide number of services ranging from make-up to haircutting, dying, styling and other related services, the Natasha Saigol salon is the place to be. In a very exclusive yet private affair, organised and arranged by Pitch Media Inc, Natasha spoke to journalists and bloggers about her take on fall/winter hair fashion, how girls should complement their looks and skin tone with appropriate high and low lights for their hair and also how to accentuate their cuts with the right hair accessories.

Natasha who has worked amidst competitive stylists and hair fashioners both in her home country and abroad, demonstrates her art majestically through her very obvious prowess.

As the aforementioned event took place at the homely salon (literally as it’s nestled adjacent to her home) she recently launched, Natasha demonstrated the fall/winter 2013 hairstyles on a model. I got to know exactly what she meant by going “soft” with one’s hair, when she tied up the model’s tresses in a bun wrapped around a foam-like accessory that was quite flexible and fattened the bun to a great length. She very meticulously adorned the bun with hairpins to strengthen it and neatly placed diamante pins alongside to add to its appeal. And all this was before she gave each one of us a hairdo we wanted to keep for the rest of our lives. I remember not brushing my hair for two days in a row, fearing I might lose the perfect bubbles my blow-dry made of my hair, and that too with the aid of a brush and no rollers, the front and side bangs neatly covering the top of my hair and falling along.

“I wonder why nearly all the stylists take too long in cutting the client’s hair. It’s not an operation, it’s a haircut. I take maximum 10 minutes,” Natasha said while she was finished with me in less than five. Sometime later, she gave a final advice session on what hair dyes women should be using, the brands to say ‘no’ to and how to be extra careful in selecting the right hair colour for yourself.

“The hair colour should bring forth the cut and complement your skin tone. I remember using a colour on my hair that made me not use any make-up at all as my cheeks gave a rosy tinge automatically due to it,” Natasha maintained.

“For make-up, I love Amina Raja for her work. And for hair, I have got to hand it over to Tariq Amin. They’re just fabulous,” she added.

Head over to the Natasha Saigol salon this season and for every season. She’ll surely tell you how to have fun with your hair.
