NA moved over ‘manhandling’ of journalist

ISLAMABAD – Parliamentarians belonging to the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) have invited the attention of Speaker National Assembly towards the alleged physical assault by intelligence officials of Carlotta Call, a representative of Herald Tribune,in Quetta.

The magazine claimed that the journalist was manhandled by the intelligence officials and kept for five hours along with her press photographer when she went to Quetta on her professional duty.

She had gone to the Balochistan capital to observe the resurgent Taliban fighting with American and NATO troops in Afghanistan and on the frontier region of both sides of Pakistan and Afghanistan border, the report added.

It further claimed that the Pakistani officials broke into her hotel room and copied her notes and computer files. She was harassed, tracked down and questioned everyone she had interviewed in Quetta.

The MPs were of the view that this press report had disgraced Pakistan and might create repercussions in the journalist community of the country and abroad. The matter is very serious and needs discussion on the floor of the House, they said
