Murder of Mukarram Khan: journalists demand judicial inquiry

The journalists fraternity from Khyber Paktunkhwa and FATA have demanded a judicial inquiry into the murder of tribal journalist Mukarram Khan and called for providing full protection to working journalists, especially in tribal areas.

To condemn the brutal killing of tribal journalist, Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUj) and Tribal Union of Journalists (TUJ) held a joint protest demonstration outside the Peshawar Press Club (PPC).

The demonstration was led by KhUj President, General Secretary, Yousaf Ali, Senior Vice President, Ali Hazrat Bacha.

A large number of journalists from Peshawar and tribal region were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans against killing of tribal journalist Mukarram Khan.

The protesting journalists demanded of the government to arrest the killers immediately and bring them to justice.

They also demanded provision of protection for journalists to prevent such incidents in the future.

KhUj, General Secretary, Yousuf Ali while speaking on the occasion, condemned the killing of journalist Mukarram Khan and said that more than 24 journalists’ have so far been killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA.

Owing to poor law and order situation in the province, he said that the journalists’ were facing immense security threats and difficulties for performing their professional obligations both in settled and tribal areas.

Addressing the protesting journalists, President PPC Saif-ul-Islam Saifi said that there was not any proper mechanism for protection of journalists, because of which a number of journalists were being killed.
