MoU signed on tackling marginalization through women’s visibility in digital journalism

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A quadrilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Institute for Research, Advocacy and Development (IRADA), Women Journalists Association of Pakistan (WJAP), Digital Media Alliance of Pakistan (DigiMAP) and Freedom Network (FN) was signed at National Press Club (NPC) in Islamabad on Friday.

Under this MoU, IRADA will support WJAP through specialised trainings on quality women led and women focused public interest journalism content for DigiMAP platforms.

Furthermore, IRADA will facilitate engagement of WJAP with civil society organisations and networks, particularly the Alliance for Diversity and Pluralism in Media in Pakistan (ADPM), working on Marginalization themes.

Speaking on the occasion, Convener of WJAP Ms. Fauzia Kalsoom Rana said that the association provides equal opportunity for women journalists to raise their voice against gender discrimination in the media houses۔ She said that this MoU will further provide women journalists with an opportunity to groom their digital skills.

Ms. Fauzia Kalsoom Rana said that initially we faced challenges but our constitution provides us freedom of assembly.

Kalsoom said that WJAP also train women journalists to equip them with necessary skills to cover the stories relating to the marginalised segments of our society.

Veteran Journalists including Founder of Journalism Pakistan Imran Naeem, Ismat Jabeen, Vice President NPC Myra Imran, the Executive Director of Freedom Network Iqbal Khattak, President DigiMAP Sabookh Syed, Adnan Rehmat from International Media Support (IMS), and Broadcaster Rukhsana Mussarat also graced the event.
