Mother of five ‘smothered to death’ by husband
LAHORE: A protest was held against the police in front of the Lahore Press Club on Sunday by the parents and relatives of Yasmeen, who was allegedly smothered to death by her husband and in-laws in the Shahdara police precincts.
The mother of three children, Yasmeen, was found dead at her husband’s house in Farrukh Abad late on Saturday night. The family alleged that Yasmeen’s husband, Qaisar, had tortured and later smothered her to death.
About a 100 people protested in front of the Lahore Press Club, chanting slogans against police for the non-registration of the case and demanding justice from the government. The protestors alleged that the husband and his parents had tortured and later killed the victim. The Police Civil Lines Superintendent and other senior police officials reached the scene and assured the protesters that a case would be registered against the accused.
Daughter: The five-year-old daughter of the deceased, Humaira, was also protesting with others for the arrest of her father. She said that she was at her home when her father and mother were quarrelling. She said that she had witnessed her father overpower her mother and place a pillow on her face. She also said that when she had started screaming, her father had locked her in another room. When she was let out of the room, she saw people mourning at her house, she added.
The victim’s brother, Tariq, alleged that after the failure of QaisarÂ’s business, he had started to torture Yasmeen and had, on numerous occasions, forced her to get money from her parents. He said that his sister had told their mother about the torture.
The mother of the deceased said that she had suspicions that Qaiser was habitually torturing Yasmeen. She said that when she had confronted him about it, he had abused her and said that they could not do anything to harm him.
Autopsy: The protestors alleged that Sub-Inspector Allah Ditta was helping Qaiser, which was the reason why he had not registered any case yet. Sub-Inspector Allah Datta, when contacted, said that he could not register the case before a postmortem report.
