Mobile Services Suspended in Sindh & Other Cities for Chehlum Amid Tightened Security
Mobile services in key cities across Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur, were suspended on August 26th as part of stringent security protocols for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain(RA) . This suspension, coordinated between the Sindh government and federal authorities, is intended to safeguard public safety during the religious observance.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar highlighted that the suspension of mobile services is a crucial element of the security plan, aimed at preventing any disruptions during the processions. In addition to ground security, aerial surveillance has been arranged to monitor the events and address any potential threats swiftly.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed the suspension, stating that it followed directives from the Ministry of Interior. The suspension affects both voice and data services and covers Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, Khairpur, and other strategic locations throughout the day. The PTA assured that the disruption is temporary and designed solely to ensure the safety of participants.
The Sindh Home Department provided specific timings for the mobile service suspension: Karachi from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Hyderabad from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Mirpurkhas from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Shaheed Benazirabad from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Larkana from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Similar security measures are being observed in Punjab, where mobile services have been partially suspended in several districts, including Rawalpindi, Jhang, Layyah, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Chakwal, and Toba Tek Singh. This decision, taken by the Punjab Home Department in response to police recommendations, is aimed at maintaining law and order during this significant religious practice.
