Mobile phones inside polling station banned
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday said that in order to stem chances of any manipulation of the polling process, a voter would not be allowed to carry cell phones inside polling booths.
An ECP press release said that the measure would be adopted to ensuring smooth and transparent conduct of polls at polling stations.The ECP decided that each presiding officer would ask the voter if he was carrying a mobile phone.
In case the answer would in affirmative, the presiding officer would direct the voter to place the mobile on his table and thereafter, ballot paper be issued to the voter.The voter, after marking the same in screened off compartment, will insert his folded ballot papers in the ballot boxes and only then the mobile of the voter would be returned to him.
“It has been further decided that if a voter refuses to hand over his mobile to the presiding officer, he may not be given the ballot paper,” the commission noted.All the district returning officers, returning officers and presiding officers have been informed for strict compliance of the decision.
