Missing persons’ families stage sit-in

ISLAMABAD (February 07 2007): Members of missing persons’ families on Tuesday staged a peaceful sit-in in front of Parliament House here. They were carrying placards inscribed with slogans ‘Aik Pakistani ki keemat 5000 dollars’, ‘How cheap our blood is’, ‘Gharib awam ke amir hukmrano! hum Niswan ke haqooq ka pursaane hall kon hai?’, ‘Hamaray chief co-ordinator Khalid Khawaja ko riha karo’, and others.

Pictures of the missing persons were also displayed on the occasion. MMA MNA Liquat Baloch approached the protesters and expressed sympathy with them.

He said that false cases had been registered against these people, and termed it an injustice to them. ‘If they have violated any law, cases should be registered against them, and they must be produced in the court of law,” he added. He termed this as violation of basic human rights and United Nations law.

He termed the government act a threat to national integrity, and added that if the trust of the masses wwas lost, everything was lost. MNA Farid Piracha also visited the place to express sympathy with the family members of the missing people, and assured them that efforts were being made for their release. He said that Parliament has no power, and the judiciary has become helpless which is time of grave concern. Mehreen Raja, Yasmeen Rehman, Khurshid Shah and Pervez Ashraf of PPP also visited them and expressed sympathy.
