Minorities seek protection of rights
PESHAWAR: Members of the minority communities have urged the government to take steps to ensure protection of their rights.
They were speaking at a consultative session titled “Religious Freedom and Rights Minorities” with media persons organised by a civil society organisation South Asia Partnership Pakistan (SAP-Pk), at the Press Club on Wednesday.
All Pakistan Hindus Rights Movement (APHRM) Chairman Harun Sarb Diyal, Agstan Jacob of the Christian community, Nusrat, a representative of SAP-Pk and senior journalist Shamim Shahid were present on the occasion.
They said the political parties were deviating from their pre-election commitments regarding the provision of equal rights and protection to non-Muslim communities.“It has been clearly mentioned in the manifestos of various political parties that safety, education, health facilities and other basic rights to minorities, would be prioritised if elected to power,” says Harun Diyal.
