Minister gives KPC president Rs 12 million cheque

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan presented a cheque of Rs 12 million to Karachi Press Club President Tahir Hassan Khan after a luncheon hosted by the Ministry of Information.

On the occasion, the Information Minister said that the government was committed to providing conducive and cordial environment to media persons, so they could perform their duties in a better way.

Democracy and freedom of expression go side by side, she said adding that media in Pakistan enjoyed freedom more than anywhere in the world.

She urged media persons to play a positive role and highlight the achievements of the government, which would ultimately strengthen democratic system in the country.

The Information Minister had announced a Rs 2 million grant for Karachi Press Club during her visit to the Club in September 2011.

She said that Prime Minister had also announced Rs 10 million grant for Karachi Press Club.

Secretary Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Taimoor Azmat Osman and other officials were also present on the occasion.
