Mehreen Jabbar was one of the 12 filmmakers, six each from Pakistan and India, who made a film as part of Zee Network’s ‘Zeal for Unity’ initiative that aimed to bridge the cultural gap between the two nations. While things fell apart due to a strong political rift between the two states, 12 films were made under the initiative and have been screened at multiple international film festivals since then.

Mehreen Jabbar’s film, called Lala Begum, features Marina Khan, Sonia Rehman and Humayun Saeed in key roles. Having won multiple accolades, the film is scheduled to screen this evening at The Cuckoo Café, Bandra, Mumbai, as part of the Zee5 Film Festival.

The film follows the story of two sisters, essayed by Khan and Rehman, who are at odds with each other but end up living together after a gap of some years. They eventually get over their differences and come closer but it’s too late. Fans in Mumbai can treat themselves to the film that has managed to garner good reviews so far.
