Mehreen Jabbar on the growth of Pakistani cinema over the year
Mehreen Jabbar is one of the few directors in Pakistan who focus on their narratives and believe in telling as many stories as they can to viewers through their work.
Her first film Ramchand Pakistani told the story of a Pakistani man and his seven-year-old son who accidentally cross the border and spend years in an Indian jail. This was followed by films like Dobara Phir Se and Lala Begum while she also directed dramas like Rehaai, Jackson Heights and the most recent Dil Kiya Karey that will go on air later this year.
She recently took to social media and shared the trailer of her first film (Ramchand Pakistani) after 10 years of its release, recalling the state of Pakistani cinema then and how it has evolved over the years.
“Today is 10 years since my first feature film Ramchand Pakistani was released,” she stated in her post. “This was a time when very few Pakistani films were being made and released and now a decade later, I am so happy to see Pakistani films doing well and being released more frequently.
Here’s to continued success to all local films and hoping this industry of ours grows and prospers and more and more people continue to invest and make films and the government recognizes the importance of cinema and invests in promoting and helping it!”
