Media urged to adopt moderate approach

KARACHI, Jan 18: Mass Communication department, University of Karachi, organized a seminar on media ethics on Saturday.

Sindh Information Secretary Ms Mahtab Akbar Rashdi was the guest speaker at the seminar, which was presided over by KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui.

Ms Rashdi pointed out that in the present era, when the world had become a global village, the electronic media had become very powerful. She was of the view that a positive approach on part of the press could contribute a lot towards the betterment of the society.However, she asked the press to play its role in a responsible manner, as sensationalism might satisfy a section of the population but it adversely affected the society, urging the press to adopt a moderate approach.

She maintained that irresponsible attitude on the part of some evening newspapers virtually destroyed many families. Ms Rashdi also lauded the role of the newspapers in Ms Shaista Almani’s case.

Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim, in his speech appreciated the journalists for furthering the cause of truth. Prof Dr Tahir Masood presented the welcome address, while Prof Zakariya Sajid and Dr Ghaznavi also spoke on the occasion
