Media to work as watchdog, says Arif
KARACHI – Arif Nizami, Editor The Nation and President APNS and CPNE on September 22, said that freedom of media was basic element of democracy. He said the freedom of journalism in the country is result of tremendous sacrifices rendered by working journalists and owners of the newspapers.
He was addressing at a dinner arranged by S. H. Hashmi of Orient Advertising in his honour in the city.
Mr. Arif Nizami said that it is always difficult to speak truth in the country but ‘we would stick to the path of truth and never disappoint the people.’ He said that APNS and CPNE should work as watchdog in order to enhance traditions of freedom of media. Arif Nizami said that the print media would continue to play its role of despite emergence of electronic media. He said speaking truth invites wrath of the rulers in Pakistan. “We face threats while exercising freedom of media, sometimes in shape of press advertising and other restrictions,” he said.
