Media should respect human sensitivities: Rashid

ISLAMABAD: Minister of Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on April 15 called upon the broadcasters to adhere to certain norms while showing horrific scenes in their news coverage. Chairing a meeting of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association, he said the electronic media plays a vital role in moulding people’s opinion and they should keep in mind the human sensitivities.

He said the credit goes to the present government for liberalisation the electronic media and information ministry officials. The committee will meet once every month and chalk out a code of conduct for the broadcasters.

It will compromise Tahir A.Khan, Arshad Zuberi, Duraid Siddiqui, Mir Shakilur Rehman and Haji Iqbal (broadcastersÂ’ representatives), Secretary Information Shahid Rafi, Principal Information Officer Ashfaq Gondal, Managing Director PTV Arshad Khan, DG Pemra and a representative of ISSPR. The next meeting of the committee will be held after one week in Karachi.
