Media should promote tolerance
ISLAMABAD: A day-long seminar with the overarching theme of “Role of Media; Promoting the Culture of Mutual Tolerance, Civic Responsibility and Rule of Law” was held in the Institute for Strategic Studies; Research and Analysis (ISSRA) here at National Defence University (NDU) on Thursday.
The President NDU Lt Gen. Muhammad Yousaf in his opening remarks highlighted the role of university as a premier institution of learning and research. He said, “The seminar brings about a reunion of the academia and experts, especially media professionals, towards and intellectual discourse of significance in our domestic
arena.
It also aimed at generating academic discussion on the potential role of media to wards overcoming the country’s societal dilemmas and taking up a lead role in trans formation for a better tomorrow.”
The seminar was organized in three sessions, the first session focusing on “Reviewing the contemporary Societal Dilemmas”, was chaired by Dr Riffat Hussain, while former federal minster Javed Jabbar and Editor TheNation Dr Shireen M. Mazari were the speakers.
The second session on “Emerging Profile of the Media”, was chaired by Mansoor Suhail and the speakers included Shahid Nadeem and Naseem Zehra.
While the third session on “Re-Enraging our Society: Perspective on a Way Forward”, was chaired by Ejaz Haider and the speakers were Talat Hussain and Moeed H. Peerzada. Each of the presentation was followed by question/answer session.
