Media reports on commission misleading, says Javed Iqbal

Pakistan Press Foundation

ISLAMABAD: Justice (R) Javed Iqbal, head of the Abbottabad Commission which probed the US raid on May 2, 2011 in which Osama bin Laden was killed, has refuted foreign media reports on the commission report.

Talking to a private TV channel, Javed Iqbal said the news circulating in foreign media regarding the Abbottabad Commission report are baseless and misleading. He said the report not only identified those who were responsible for the incident but also reviewed the role of different institutions.

He said the main purpose of the commission was to review performance of the country’s institutions and statements of all witnesses were recorded during investigation.

He said the commission report contains more than 100 recommendations but the foreign media failed to highlight even one of those.

Justice Javed Iqbal further said the Abbottabad Commission had handed over its report to the prime minister on January 2, 2013. He said it is the government’s responsibility to punish those responsible for the incident.
