Media plays Key role in country’s uplift: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz
ISLAMABAD ,January 05,2005 : Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday said the Government was cognizant of the role of a free and responsible media ,as it played a Kay role in the overall development of any country .
Reviewing the performance of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) as part of the review of the regulatory authorities ,the Prime minister said the government was encouraging the expansion of media networks.
He said that with new licences the size and reach of the media was rapidly inereasing , creating new jobs and increasing awareness among the people about happenings around and the social issues.
Prime minister Shaukat Aziz said opening of the media city in Islamabad would further facliate the electronic media .he directed the Pemar to award new licences in a transparent manner and through competitive biding.
