Media networks offer huge sums for Afghan visa

ISLAMABAD- Representatives of international media networks are offering three to five thousand US dollars as bribe in their frustration to get visa to Afghanistan.

A scramble to get visa to Afghanistan goes on and the Afghan Embassy here was swarmed by foreign media men on Monday.

International media networks, particularly the TV channels have started offering huge sums to the Afghan embassy staff, directly as well as indirectly.

Senior journalists in Islamabad expressed concern over the situation and said it may leave out genuine journalists who do not have such massive resources, but want to proceed to Afghanistan to discharge their professional duties.

The Afghan embassy had stopped issuance of visas after the terrorist attacks in the United States.

Hundreds of journalists from different parts of the world are in Islamabad for around one month waiting to go to Afghanistan for media coverage. Many of them have setup their offices in a five star hotel here.
