Media group attaked
Sir: The dastardly attack on the Express Group’s office in Karachi is just the latest reminder that journalists are not safe in this country. The attack was particularly chilling in nature with homemade bombs tossed inside the office premises by armed assailants who then proceeded to open fire. It is lucky that only the security guard was injured although the damage could have been much greater.
Such attacks are nothing new. Pakistan holds the unenviable position of being one of the top countries in the world that are the deadliest for journalists. Freedom of speech, expression and opinion are hated here by certain quarters be they religious extremists or those who wish to control the population through suppression. The government must arrest the culprits and bring them to book otherwise we should expect more such attacks but even deadlier in nature.
