Media can help protect human rights’
PESHAWAR, August 22 2006: Media can play a significant role in creating awareness for protection of human rights through projecting the issues in real terms without any other considerations. This was the crux of a daylong discussion at a seminar entitled “Human Rights and the Media” organized by an Islamabad-based NGO, Fazaldad Human Rights Institute (FHRI), where apart from media professionals; people from civil society participated and shared their views on the issue.
Fazal Rabbani, NWFP Minister for Food, Excise and Taxation, while expressing his views on how a free media can secure human rights, praised the local media for keeping the public aware about the truth and reality, which he believed is a basic perquisite to counter human rights violation.
