Media’s power not less than atomic bomb

KARACHI – Noted personalities from media, marketing, public relations and corporate sectors, including icons of show business, gathered to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Interflow Communications, one of the leading advertising agencies in the country, which also operates subsidiary media concerns.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed specially attended the event held at the FTC Auditorium on main Sharea Faisal.

Chief Executive Officer of Interflow Communications Tahir A Khan thanked the federal minister for gracing the occasion as he (Rashid) had cut short an official visit of China to attend this occasion.

In his brief but forthright speech in the beginning of the programme, which was also recorded for television, Rashid talked about the constant raise of the importance of media on the national scene in the wake of venturing of private sector.

“The coming four months are very vital in this regard as 22 private contenders would emerge on the scene set to give a tough competition to the state-owned Pakistan Television (PTV),” he added.

He said the media possessed power not less than an atomic bomb having heavy influence on the government and public affairs. Now, media has gathered a great momentum for casting influence on business and corporate affairs too.

About the vitality of advertising industry, the minister said the advertising agencies had all the required potential and resources to campaign for the elimination of prevailing hatred and mistrust in the country, a task that is need of the hour.

Tahir Khan, in his speech, said that in the space of a decade has become on of the biggest ad agencies in the country since its launch in July 1983. This success he said could not be achieved without the untiring and selfless efforts of the employees of Interflow.

Shahwaar Rahim, head of the Public Service Division of Interflow, added to say that Interflow was in fact the only ad agency in Pakistan with a separate division to create and run social and public service campaigns.

The evening featured leading popular singers of the country including Fakhr-e-Alam, Ali Zafar, Junaid Jamshed, Faisal Kapadia and Bilal Maqsood of Strings group who either had once associated with Interflow Communications or lately entered into agreements with the ad agency to appear in various promotional campaigns of a multi-national beverage company.

Fareeha Pervez and Fusion group also performed on the occasion. Film industry leading hero Shaan, TV actress-turned-social activist Fariyal Gohar, Qaiser Khan Nizamani, Arshad Khan, managing director of PTV, also made special appearances at the stage and talked about their associations with various projects of the Interflow Group.

Anwar Maqsood, Moin Akhtar and Bushra Ansari presented numerous skits casting jibe and sarcasm on various glamorous aspects of the advertising industry.
