Massive crackdown launched against illegal SIM sellers

PESHAWAR: Police in collaboration with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) launched a massive crackdown on Wednesday against unauthorised sellers of mobile SIMs in various parts of provincial metropolis.

During the crackdown, scores of illegal vendors were detained and large numbers of illegal SIMs were confiscated.

The drive against unauthorised SIMS sellers was the part of the campaign launched by PTA to put an end to this menace of using unauthorised phone SIMs.

The misuse of mobile phone by unscrupulous persons had become a social problem which is mainly linked to unauthorised and unverified SIMs, got without proper procedure and documentation.

Police raids were important as they would give a lead to PTA about the franchises of mobile companies involved in illegal sale.

Parallel to this action by police, PTA is also conducting surprise checks of all mobile franchises for monitoring compliance of PTA directives on issuance of SIMs.

The PTA according to its policy directives and standard operating procedure would take strict action against the concerned mobile companies and would ask them to seal the franchise found involved in selling of illegal SIMs.

PTA had previously cancelled the registration of various franchises on violation of PTA’s directives.
