Maryam out to keep a check on media
Islamabad: The ministry of information, broadcasting & national heritage has established Strategic Media Communication Cell at Prime Minister Secretariat under the supervision of Maryam Nawaz Sharif with sole objective to keep vigilance on trends in media relating to government departments and analyze coverage of media relating to government’s prospects and initiatives, The Nation has learnt.
Well-placed sources in ministry of information revealed that Strategic Media Communication Cell will keep a check on print, electronic and social media regarding criticism and projection of the government.
Press Information Department will also assist the newly recruited staff of the Strategic Media Communication Cell.
A team of this cell comprising coordinator media cell, communication media developer, researchers, graphic designers and social media activists have been selected to carry out functioning of the cell on lucrative incentives.
It has also been learnt that media coordinator of this cell will earn Rs 300,000 per month while communication media developer will earn Rs 200,000 per month and other staff of the cell will earn Rs 45,000 to Rs 60,000 per month.
The Strategic Media Communication Cell will start annual social media campaigns in consultation with various government and public sector organisations.
The cell will arrange in bulk media buying on behalf of the government.
The media time will be utilized by different government departments for launching social media campaigns.
A senior official of information ministry requesting not to be named stated that the government is willing to be alert on trends in print, electronic and social media and the cell is an endeavour on part of the government to be vigilant on media monitoring and to project good initiatives of the government.
All government departments in this regards are being informed to provide reports relating to their achievements to this cell and this cell will be tasked to uplift government’s projection through media campaigning.
He mentioned that unscheduled load-shedding of electricity and terrorism incidents are main concerns for PML-N government amidst ongoing challenges and the way the government manages these issues will be a challenging task in coming days.
