Manzoor Wassan gets marching orders

KARACHI: Following the recent changes in the federal cabinet to achieve political benefits, the Sindh government has also agreed upon a reshuffle in the Sindh cabinet.

According to sources, Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan has been removed and he is now planning to go abroad on a ëlong leaveí.Sources said the home minister had submitted an application with the Sindh chief minister, saying he wanted to go to the United Kingdom for treatment. He is reportedly suffering from some spinal cord problem. He had also undergone a surgery in the city for its treatment.

However, in the wake of deteriorating law and order in the city, the timing of his leave has fuelled speculations that the home minister is going to be replaced.Interestingly, former home minister Zulfiqar Mirza had also gone on leave before his replacement.

There were conflicting reports about the duration of Wassanís leave. A source close to him told The News that he had applied for one monthís leave. Another source said that he was going abroad for eight days.

The home minister himself disclosed this in the provincial assembly on Tuesday, saying he was going on leave. During the debate on an adjournment motion of PML-F legislator Marvi Rashdi on target killings in the city, Wassan requested Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro to allow him to speak on the motion as he might not be available for the next session. As the speaker did not oblige him, the home minister hinted that the chief minister might wind up the debate on law and order as he was going on leave for ësome daysí.The Home Departmentís consultant, Sharifuddin Memon, when contacted, said he was not in the knowledge of the matter. He said he heard about it on television channels.
