Mansehra lawyers seek commission under High Court judge

MANSEHRA: Rejecting the probe commission under a magistrate, the District Bar Association on Saturday asked Peshawar High Court (PHC) chief justice to reconstitute the body to properly investigate the rape case.

“If the PHC chief justice can take suo motu notice of an Afghan couple’s case in Abbottabad, why he cannot constitute a judicial commission under a high court judge to dig out reality in the case as we want justice for everyone,” Shahjahan Khan Swati told reporters after a meeting of the bar here.

The bar meeting was summoned to decide the future line of action in the gang-rape case of teenager Sonia. The lawyers also decided to take up the issue with Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry before August 27. The district bar has already got a stay order from a local court on meetings with Sonia at the Darul Aman where she was lodged in Abbottabad till August 27.

Shahjahan Swati said the lawyers should quit their profession if they could not provide justice to an innocent girl.

The lawyers also decided to mobilise the supreme and high court bar associations regarding the case to seek their support. They said they would extend legal and other support to the victim girl until justice was done.
