Man sentenced to death for blasphemous act
ISLAMABAD: A judge sentenced a man to death here on Wednesday on charges of blasphemy, a court official said.
The trial was held in Sialkot after the police arrested him in a nearby village.
Falk Sher, a court administrator, said Judge Shoaib Ahmad Roomi also sentenced Shafeeq Latif to life in prison and fined Rs 5 million on a separate charge for desecrating Holy Quran in 2006.
Latif was accused of passing derogatory remarks about Holy Prophet (SAW).
Latif’s lawyer was not immediately available for comment, but Sher said the defendant had the right to appeal.
