Man burns his wife to death

GUJRANWALA, July 1: A man, along with his father, allegedly burnt his wife to death after eight months of his marriage for her failure to conceive on Tuesday.

Amina Bibi, of Fatomand Jinnah Road, was married to her cousin Muhammad Ali, son of Muhammad Aslam, of Waniyawala village.

Dawn learnt Ali and his father were engaged in witchcraft business. Amina suspected her husband had affairs with many women, which led to frequent skirmishes between them. Differences intensified when Amina failed to conceive.

Muhammad Ahsan, Amina’s uncle, told Dawn that Amina called her mother on Tuesday that her husband was going to kill her.

“Razia Bibi and my nephew Mudassar Iqbal and I went to Amina’s house where she was drenched with kerosene oil thrown by her husband and father-in-law. Before we could rescue her, they set her on fire. We extinguished the fire and shifted her to hospital where she died.”

Razia, mother of the deceased girl, said she had raised her five children by working in houses as maid after the death of her husband.

She said Amina’s husband and father-in-law used to taunt Amina as “barren”. She alleged Ali and Aslam had impersonated themselves as Shah or Syed but in fact they belonged to a ‘Nai’ family. She said both accused had developed illicit relations with many of the women who visited them for witchcraft. Amina advised them to stop the business.

Shahnaz Ahmed, investigation officer, said a murder case had been registered in Aroop police station against Ali and his father Aslam on the complaint of Razia. He said police were after the accused.
