Man accused of forcing minor girl’s nikkah
DADU: A peasant held a demonstration along with members of his family outside the press club here on Sunday in protest against a local wadera who, he alleges, forced the nikkah of his three-year-old daughter with a seven-year-old boy.
Shadi Khan Ghan of Mitho Jhatiyal village near Khairpur Nathan taluka, told journalists that Rais Sahib Khan Jhatiyal had forced him at gunpoint for the nikkah of his daughter Zahida with Sohrab Jhatiyal about nine months ago and he and his family had since been in hiding to protect the girl.
Shadi Khan’s wife Ashraf Khatoon had Zahida with her when she told journalists that Sahib Khan and the boyÂ’s father Qamaruddin had threatened to kidnap Zahida and Sahib Khan said he would kill them if they did not hand over the girl to him.
She said that her family had complained to police and the district administration but they were not ready to act against the influential wadera.
She appealed to Chief Justice Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Choudhry to take notice of the injustice and direct officials concerned to provide protection to the family.
