Lok Virsa to initiate screening of Iranian films soon: Fouzia

Islamabad – Executive Director of Pakistan National Institute for Folk and Traditional Heritage (Loke Virsa), Fouzia Saeed has said that they would soon initiate screening of Iranian movies in cinemas to help enhance Pak-Iran cultural exchange cooperation in the region.

Talking to APP, she said that the Iranian films were liked throughout the world and its presentation in Pakistan would be highly appreciated.

The Iranian movies were culturally very close to Pakistani society ought to be screened in Pakistani cinemas and the cultural proximity was also one of the eminent point in this regard, she added.

Iranian movies were being appreciated globally and their screening in Pakistan must be encouraged she added.

General Manager Marketing of Cinepax Cinema Mohsin Yasin has also said that they must show Iranian films, as it is a best way of cultural exchange between the two countries.

He has also appealed the Iranian cultural department saying that Iran should help them under the cultural exchange program and they should be put in contact with the Iranian producers to release movies in Pakistan.

Meanwhile National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) Mandwa Film Club has organized screening of classic film “Kaneez” at Media Centre, Lok Virsa.

Kaneez is a 1965 Pakistani Urdu black-and-white film directed by Hassan Tariq and jointly produced by Hassan Tariq and Ali Sufiyan Afaqi.

It cast was Waheed Murad, Zeba, Mohammad Ali, Sabiha Khanum, Lehri, Saqi, Adeeb and Talish.

It is a block buster musical family- relationship film.

Waheed Murad and Zeba played lead roles, while Mohammad Ali played a supporting role in the film.

The film’s music was composed by Khalil Ahmed and the songs were written by Himayat Ali Shair and Agha Hashar Kashmiri. The playback singers were Ahmed Rushdi, Mala, Naseem Begum and Masood Rana.

Kaneez was released on 26 November 1965 in Pakistani cinemas. The film completed 16 weeks on Naz Cinema and 50 weeks on other cinemas of Karachi and, thus, became a golden jubilee film.
