Linking Wage Award with ads

ISLAMABAD – The Cabinet on August 18 directed the information ministry to work out a ‘formula’ for linkage of implementation of 7th Wage Board Award and government advertisements.

Briefing media men Information Minister Shaikh Rashid Ahmad said that the Cabinet discussed the issue of Award implementation at length and decided that the Award should be implemented “as per existing law”. But it did not fix any timeframe within which this should be done.

According to him, the Cabinet also desired that the Attorney General and the Advocates-General and other law officers should take steps for disposal of the writ petitions and the review petitions expeditiously.

The next government is expected to be in place between August 22 and August 25, “where we will raise this issue without any loss of time”, the minister said.

However, he cautioned that the issue being sensitive the government would be “keeping in view the best interests of the newspaper industry and the journalists at the same time”.

This was the last meeting of the present Cabinet chaired by Shujaat Hussain. He profusely thanked the ministers for their co-operation and contributions, and said that it was his utmost endeavour to take along all Cabinet colleagues while taking decisions on matters of national interest.

The Cabinet members paid tributes to the prime minister for his statesman like handling of the affairs of the government.
