LHC seeks PTV reply on Madeeha’s plea

LAHORE, September 17- The Lahore High Court has directed Pakistan Television Corporation to submit parawise comments within four weeks on a writ petition filed by artist Madeeha Gohar, for not selecting her play in the drama competition being carried out by the respondent and restraining it from telecasting. The petitioner through her counsel submitted that the respondent through an advertisement in national Press on May 27, announced to hold a drama competition and invited submissions of plays on social issues from the private sector and Rs. 2 million, 1.5 and 1 million respectively were to be awarded to first, second and third position holders out of the 13 selected dramas for the said competition.

She further said that she submitted a play tilted “Jawaz” well within the advertised deadline. She pointed out that her play was not selected for the reason of choosing the subject of honour killing for her drama. She further alleged that respondent has chosen more than one play of one writer / director and failed to obtain any instructions from the government as required by memorandum of the association of PTV. She prayed that PTV should be directed to form a professionally constituted committee to select quality dramas for the competition in fair, free and open manner.
