LHC moved against possible curbs on media

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed on Wednesday sought replies from the federal government and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting by March 20 on a writ petition filed against possible curbs on the media.

The petitioner, advocate Rana Ilmuddin Ghazi, stated that the media was exposing the government and now the government had decided to tighten noose around it by introducing certain rules and regulations.

On Wednesday, a deputy attorney general told the court that federal government was not preparing draft of any law against the press freedom. He said the petition was liable to be dismissed being non-maintainable. The court sought reply from the federal government till March 20.
