LAHORE-The Lahore High Court on Wednesday asked a man seeking ban on exhibition of Indian movie ‘Padmavat’ to approach Punjab Film Censor Board for remedy of his grievance and disposed of the petition .

Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza passed the order on petition moved by Mian Omar Ikramul Haq, a resident of Johar Town, challenging exhibition of Bollywood movie ‘Padmavat’ for having anti-Islam material and distorting history.

Advocate Jawad Zafar appeared on behalf of the petitioner and submitted that the censor board allowed exhibition of the movie without thoroughly examining the content of the movie. The movie, he said, was against Islam and Islamic values.

The counsel argued that the censor board cannot allow exhibition of such movie under Section 6of “The Motion Picture Ordinance 1979”, for containing anti-Islam material or any part prejudicial to the glory of Islam. He further said that Allauddin Khilji, the famous Muslim ruler, had been shown as beast which was beyond the facts.

The movie also distorted the facts of Islamic history, he said. Malaysian government also put ban on exhibition of the movie but unfortunately it was allowed in Pakistan, the counsel said.

The counsel contended that exhibition of “Padmavat” was also against Article 19 of the Constitution which does not allow freedom of expression prejudicial to glory of Islam and Pakistan.

The petitioner prayed the court to ban exhibition of Indian movie in entire Pakistan and declare the board’s certificate issued for its screening as null and void. After hearing arguments of the petitioner’s counsel, Justice Mirza asked the petitioner to approach the censor board.
