LAHORE/ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Condolences kept pouring in Saturday over the sad demise of The Nation Editor-in-Chief Dr Majid Nizami from political and religious figures.
Calling the death an irreparable damage, the leaders paid tribute to Dr Nizami for his lifelong struggle for the nation and the country.
Former president Asif Ali Zardari, in his condolence message, said that he was shocked and grieved by the news of Dr Nizami’s death. “Majid Nizami was a renowned journalist who had worked all his life to build a media institution which later extended its reach to electronic media as well. He will be remembered by the journalists’ fraternity as a principled journalist who expressed his views without mincing his words. He enjoyed respect of his community,” Zardari said.
Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President and former Prime Minister Senator Ch Shujaat Hussain and senior central leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi expressed deep grief and sorrow over passing away of the elderly journalist, saying that his services for Pakistan could not be forgotten. “Majid Niazmi was not only a great journalist but also a statesman, promoter and preacher of the Ideology of Pakistan. He had dedicated himself to the cause and his publishing houses,” they said.
Former PM Yousuf Raza Gillani said that Dr Majid Nizami was symbol of Pakistan and its ideology. He added that the vacuum created by his demise could not be filled by any other personality.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi said that the country and nation lost a patriot opinion leader and a thick shelter. Senator Rafiq Rajwana said that a glorious chapter of journalism and our history ended with the demise of Dr Nizami. Federal Minister Malik Sikandar Hayat Bosan said that the late kept spreading the message of ideology of Pakistan till his last breath. Jamaat Ahle Sunnat chief Allama Syed Mazhar Kazmi and his brother former federal minister Allama Syed Hamid Kazmi said that Dr Nizami never bowed even before tyrant rulers. MNA Malik Abdul Ghaffar Dogar said that Dr Nizami was a shining start in the galaxy of journalism and his services for country, nation and free press would be remembered forever.
PPP Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of the most senior journalist, Dr Majid Nizami, and offered heartfelt condolence to the members of bereaved family.
In his message, Bilawal said that the services of Majid Nizami would always be remembered as he introduced new trends in journalism and raised the standards of the field in the country through hard work and creativity.
MQM Chief Altaf Hussain also expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the death of Majid Nizami. In a statement issued from London, the MQM chief appreciated his journalistic services. He offered his condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for him.
PPP leader Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, in his condolence message to the daughter of the deceased Rameeza Majid Nizami, said that the death of her father was a national loss. “He was a national asset and a symbol formidable support for the cause of Pakistanis in general and for the Kashmiri people in particular,” he added.
Federal Minister Khawaja Asif said that Dr Majid Nizami was a globally-known icon of journalism, who played a pivotal role in strengthening Pakistan and highlighting the Kashmir.
Chairman Senate Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari, Deputy Chairman Sabir Ali Baloch, Leader of the House Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq and Leader of the Opposition Aitzaz Ahsan also expressed the sorrow over the demise.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, in his message, said Nizami was a great journalist of his time. Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, secretary general PML-Q and chairman Senate defence committee, in a separate message expressed extreme grief over the sad demise of Dr Nizami.
Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the Majid Nizami was the pride of nation. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-S chief Maulana Sami ul Haq and secretary information Maulana Asim Makhdoom said that Majid Nizami was torchbearer of ideology of Pakistan and journalism. They said that he devoted all his life to protect ideological boundaries of Pakistan.
JuD chief Hafiz Saeed termed the deatha national tragedy. Sunni Ittehad Council chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Tariq Mehboob, Allama Rasheed Rizvi and others said that Nizami was a real Mujahid. JI chief Sirajul Haq lauded his services to the journalism and the country. He said that the chapter of ideological journalism was closed with his death. JUP president Pir Ijaz Hashmi, Shah Awais Noori and Qari Zawar Bahadur also conveyed their condolences over the death of Dr Majid Nizami.
PML-N Sindh President Ismail Raho and Sectary general Nishal Hashmi and others termed the death of Dr Majid Nizami a great loss to the field of journalism. PML-Q Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh and senior leader Haleem Siddiqui, while paying tribute to Majid Nizami’s services towards the country, said that Majid Nizami was a national asset and his death was a great setback for everyone. ANP Sindh chief and Senator Shahi Syed, in a condolence message, said that his services for the growth of the Pakistan ideology were unmatchable. PTI Sindh leaders including MNA Dr Arif Alvi also expressed deep sorrow. In a condolence message, PTI leaders paid rich tribute to his valuable services. JUI Sindh leaders Dr Khalid Somro and Aslam Ghouri, in a joint statement, expressed immense sorrow and said that this vacuum was not going to be filled ever.
Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran expressed deep sense of sorrow over the sad demise. He said that Majid Nizami was the torchbearer of Ideology of Pakistan and independent journalism, He said that Nizami was the only editor who faced three dictators and spoke truth before tyrannical rulers fearlessly. He said that Nizami’s style of journalism was the best guideline for journalists.
Meanwhile, Government College University Lahore VC Prof Dr Khaleeq-ur-Rahman, faculty members and the Old Ravians Union also offered their deep condolences on the sad demise of the eminent Old Ravian. The VC paid glowing tribute to late Nizami for his services. He said that his death had created a void which would never be filled, adding that Dr Nizami had a great love for his alma mater.
A number of condolence gatherings and Fateha congregations were also held in Multan for the departed soul. The staffers of Nawa-i-Waqt Group gathered at local office and offered Fateha while District and High Court Bars Associations held separate gatherings to pray for the departed soul.
