KARACHI: A group of lawyers allegedly thrashed two reporters at the City Courts on Tuesday for “filming them while they were inappropriately searching a woman”.

Junaid Shah and Waqas Aurangzeb, both reporters affiliated with private TV news channels, were beaten up and locked up for around half an hour inside the City Courts premises.

Shah told The Express Tribune that he and his colleague were going to a court when they saw a woman running. “She was being chased by two lawyers, Advocate GM Syed and Advocate Hasnain,” he added.“They caught her and started searching her.”

Shah said he started recording them with his cell phone. “The two lawyers became infuriated and snatched my cell phone. Then they, accompanied by other lawyers, started hitting us,” he maintained.

He said the lawyers deleted the video from his cell phone and told them to never return to the City Courts again.

“They let us go after half-an-hour,” he added.

Karachi Bar Association President Naeem Qureshi and General Secretary Khalid Nawaz Marwat have promised to probe into the incident and take action if the lawyers were found guilty.

Advocate GM Syed told reporters that he had only stopped the two journalists from recording a video and did not manhandle them.
