Lawyer terms gang-rape case politically motivated

NAWABSHAH: Abdul Salam Lohrani, general secretary, People’s Lawyers Forum, who has been nominated in the gang-rape case of a teenage girl, has said that he has been implicated in the false case due to political reasons.

Talking to Dawn on Monday, Mr Lohrani said that the FIR lodged by the father of the 13-year-old girl from Bhirya Road town of Naushahro Feroze district against him and others was false. He said was in the court of the Ist Senior Civil Judge Tando Adam till 5.30pm on the day of incident mentioned in the FIR. He said that he, along with his clients, then moved to Bhit Shah where they stayed till late night.

He said that he and his brother Abdul Karim were present in a Naushahro Feroze court when the girl was recording her statement. “However it was surprising that she did not recognise us,” Abdul Salam added.

He said that the FIR was politically motivated as he belonged to Pakistan People’s Party and was the district general secretary of the PLF and he contested against Ghulam Mohammed Abbasi Kalhoro in the Sindh Bar Council elections this year.

He said that he supported PPP candidate in the local bodies and general elections against a rival candidate of Kalhoro community due to which the gang rape case was lodged against him. The girl belongs to Kalhoro community.
