Lahore Press Club Elects New Leadership in Annual Polls

In the annual elections held at the Lahore Press Club, Arshad Ansari of the Journalist Progressive Group clinched the presidency, outpacing Babar Dogar of the Pioneers Progressive Group.

The club also saw the election of other key office bearers. Afzal Talib secured the position of Senior Vice President, while Saima Nawaz won the Vice President slot. The role of General Secretary went to Zahid Abid.

Among the elected members of the governing body were Ulfat Mughal, Khawaja Sarmad Farukh, Rana Shehzad, Badr Saeed, Shahida Butt, Mehbood Chaudhry, and Shakir Mehmood Awan. Their election reflects the collective aim of the members to uphold high journalistic standards and democratic values within the organization.

The results were warmly received by notable figures, including the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, National Heritage, and Culture, Attaullah Tarar, who congratulated the new office bearers. He reiterated the government’s commitment to press freedom and expressed hope that the newly elected leadership would diligently work toward the welfare of journalists and uphold the Constitution.

Chairman of the Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, also extended his congratulations, underscoring the positive step these elections represent for the journalistic community and expressing his best wishes for their tenure.
