KUJ condemns US action against Afghanistan

KARACHI- The Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) has condemned the US-led military strikes against Afghanistan, resulting in the killing of innocent people.

At an extended KUJ meeting, held under the chairmanship of Sarfaraz Ahmed at the Karachi Press Club, the executive council of the KUJ said it condemns the “vicious bombardment on Afghanistan by the US war machine in which hundreds of innocent civilians have been killed and many more injured”.

The other resolutions adopted by the KUJ condemned “terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” adding the “Sept 11 tragic events in New York and Washington should not have been made the basis of the barbaric attacks on the already ruined Afghanistan”.

“This meeting is of the view that the internal and external policies of the Pakistani establishment over the decades have resulted in the critical situation the country finds itself in,” said a KUJ press release.

The KUJ urged the owners of newspapers and proprietors of the electronic media to provide all required facilities, including insurance cover, to their representative journalistic staff and send them to the “war zone” and disturbed areas around the globe so that they could send first-hand, objective reports back home, so that the people do not remain wholly dependent on the foreign media.

The KUJ decided to hold a seminar on “the present situation fraught with danger to the people of the country, the region and the world.”
