KP Assembly Considering New Bill to Protect Journalists’ Welfare
A legislative committee is reviewing a significant bill to safeguard the welfare of journalists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The proposed law, highlighted by KP Information Advisor Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, seeks to address key issues journalists face, such as job security, health benefits, and legal protection.
During the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) leadership training program on September 28, Barrister Saif announced that the KP government is committed to press freedom and is actively discussing a welfare bill for journalists in the provincial assembly. The event was attended by PFUJ Secretary Ehtisham-ul-Haq, Coordinator Ghulam Mustafa, and senior journalists, underscoring the government’s efforts to foster a favorable environment for media professionals.
Speaking at the leadership training, Barrister Saif emphasized that the government values positive criticism and is dedicated to improving the working conditions of journalists. He encouraged the journalist community to adapt to the evolving nature of media in the digital age. Saif added that modern communication tools have transformed the media landscape, and training programs like the PFUJ event are essential for equipping journalists with the skills needed to meet current standards.
